Event: Law Society of B.C. Lecture

How does journalism help uphold the rule of law, and what happens when journalists face growing restrictions on their work?

The Law Society of BC’s 2026 Rule of Law Lecture will bring together Joanna Chiu, author, former China correspondent and managing partner of Nüora Global Advisors, and Stephanie Nolen, veteran foreign correspondent and global health reporter at The New York Times, for a panel discussion on the role of journalism in a free and democratic society.

Chiu and Nolen will examine the challenges of reporting where the rule of law is under pressure, the risks faced by journalists and their sources, why independent, fact-based reporting is essential. Members of the legal profession, journalists and the public are invited to join this timely conversation.
